About Us

R. L. Alan Jordan is the owner and President of Delta Engineering Corporation. Mr. Jordan is a graduate of Purdue University where he received the MSME, BSME(with distinction) and AASMET. He started Delta in 1978 after previous tenures at Proctor and Gamble Company and Ball Corporation. He is a Registered Professional Engineer (Indiana PE60014926), a life member of Indiana Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi Association, and holds memberships in various professional organizations.

Mr. Jordan has published articles in ASME and ASEE publications and for Machine Design Magazine. He has also written a self published text book for beginning engineering technology students titled Engineering Computations. The textbook and accompanying videos are a compilation of various computation subjects from using a scientific calculator to the introduction and use of vectors.

Through the more than 35 years of his varied engineering career, Mr. Jordan has designed machines, test equipment, lift devices for heavy manufacturing, written computer programs and instruction manuals and solved many other problems. He has also taught upcoming engineering technology students the art and science of machine design. One area of special interest has been the study of cams and mechanisms. His work in this field has produced three different computer programs for the design of cams. The latest of these is called Cam Designer SE™. This program and its predecessor CAM DESIGNER™ is being used worldwide by a number of companies. For users of his software, Mr. Jordan produced a manual for designing cams along with a video training series that covers the kinematics of follower motion, geometry of the cam, dynamics of the cam and follower, selection of the follower, and fabrication of the cam.

Without proper units attached to a number, the number is just a number. Also, as NASA found during one Mars mission, having the proper units for the numbers can be the difference between success and failure. Because of the importance of units in any engineering computations, another software program called UniSolver™ has been developed by Mr. Jordan. This program is a scientific calculator that operates in RPN mode and makes computations using the units attached to the number. Also, the engine of UniSolver™ is used in Cam Designer SE™ to free the user from converting between US and SI units.

Mr. Jordan is Professor Emeritus from Purdue University. In his 21 years at Purdue, he taught courses in Engineering Mechanics (both Statics and Dynamics), Engineering Computations, Fluid Power, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials, Machine Design, Production Drawing, and Materials and Processes. Since 2004, Mr. Jordan been active in pioneering synchronous distance education for Purdue's Statewide Technology System. Through his efforts to make information available to the students at all hours, Mr. Jordan has developed a series of training videos on various subjects. Some of the videos for these subjects have been reproduced for members of this site.
